Married and wanting to change your name, follow the steps below.
IMPORTANT FACT. You need to wait until your certified copies comes through in the mail. You can make any changes until you have these.
Step 1) First, take your Driving License, your Social Security card/letter and the Certified Abstract Marriage Record to the Social Security Office in the County you are living and get your name changed on your Social Security Card. No Fee for this. Your new card will be mailed to you within 7-10 business days.
Then: take your Driver’s License, your new Social Security Card and the Certified Copy of Your Marriage Record to the Driver’s License Bureau (BMV) and change your name on your Driver’s License. BMV may charge a fee.
Step 2) Take the Certified Copy of Marriage Record to your banks, Credit Cards, Employers and anywhere you need to prove you are married.
Don’t forget to change your name on your Passport. Instructions for this are on the passport website.
